The field of plastic surgery is constantly evolving, with new and exciting treatments, therapies, and surgical approaches routinely being introduced to the market. However, it’s important to recognize when a traditional procedure is the best option for treatment. Such is the case with the facelift.
Many nonsurgical therapies do a beautiful job of counteracting the effects of aging, but eventually the surgical approach is the most effective way to create a lasting change in the face. A facelift refreshes and smoothes the face, reducing the tired look that aging sometimes creates. The facelift addresses the skin and muscles of the mid and lower face, from the eyes down to the neck. It improves the following concerns:
- Sagging skin
- Deep wrinkles below the eyes
- Fallen cheeks
- Deep nasolabial folds (laugh lines)
- Jowls caused by lack of muscle tone
- Double chin caused by sagging skin and fatty deposits
The procedure itself can be personalized to address particular areas of concern, and it can be the foundation for a complete facial rejuvenation if additional areas of the face need attention. The facelift can be combined with additional surgical procedures to complement the results of a facelift:
- Forehead lift. The forehead lift, or brow lift, removes deep lines between the eyebrows and raises a sagging forehead or drooping eyebrows.
- Eyelid lift. Sagging, wrinkled lids or bags under the eyes can be addressed through an eyelid lift (or blepharoplasty).
While a facelift addresses the loss of structural support that occurs with aging, sometimes the appearance of the skin itself needs to be rejuvenated. For example, laser skin resurfacing can address age spots on the surface of the skin while stimulating the formation of new collagen to add subtle volume; an IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment can also fade brown spots and help even out skin tone. The staff at our Ziba Medical Spa work under my direction to provide professional grade skin treatments, so we can take an integrated approach to facial rejuvenation.
A facelift can erase years from the appearance, while additional procedures and treatments can refine and enhance the results. Please visit us to discuss your options for facelift surgery.
