Liposuction Eugene

Get the slimmer, more elegant shape you desire with body sculpting

Unflattering, diet- and exercise-resistant pockets of fat can be extremely frustrating for those of us who work hard to look our best. If your healthy lifestyle doesn’t seem to be enough to get rid of unwanted fat, liposuction can help.

By selectively removing excess, stubborn fat, Eugene plastic surgeon Dr. Movassaghi uses liposuction to help men and women achieve long-lasting improvements to their shape and renew their confidence when they look in the mirror.

Why should I consider liposuction?

If you are bothered by stubborn fat in specific areas of your body, despite diet and exercise, liposuction can likely help you see the improvements you desire. Liposuction may also be desirable if you wish to change the contours of your body. For example, if you feel your hips and buttocks are disproportionately large compared to your upper body, an experienced plastic surgeon can actually reshape the area to achieve more balanced, aesthetically-pleasing curves.

“I love my new look. I feel so much more confident, and shopping for new clothes has been a sheer delight!!!”

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

While you will experience the best results if you are at or near your ideal body weight, improved techniques in liposuction now allow larger amounts of fat removal, so liposuction can be useful to heavier patients as well.

Since liposuction specifically targets fat, patients with good skin elasticity will see the best results, as the skin will contract smoothly to the new, slimmer contours. Those with stretched or sagging skin on the body will likely be happier with other body contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck, mommy makeoverarm lift, or Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling.

What areas can liposuction treat?

In the hands of an experienced plastic surgeon, liposuction can be performed safely and effectively nearly anywhere on the body. By tailoring the instruments and his techniques, Dr. Movassaghi can beautifully reshape very small areas, such as the armpits, or sculpt a seamless new contour to a broader portion of the body, such as the waist, hips, and buttocks.

Common areas where our patients choose to have liposuction include:

  • Beneath the chin (a “double chin”)
  • Upper arms and armpits
  • Male chest for gynecomastia treatment
  • Trunk, abdomen, and waist
  • Hips and thighs
  • Inner knees, calves, and ankles

Enhance your results by combining procedures with liposuction

Liposuction is an extremely versatile procedure, and it is commonly used to enhance the results of other breast and body procedures. For men bothered by gynecomastia, liposuction for men can often sculpt a firmer, more masculine chest. Dr. Movassaghi frequently uses liposuction in conjunction with tummy tuck surgery to sculpt an improved contour to the hips and waist that looks natural with the flatter, firmer tummy. Additional procedures that may enhance the result of liposuction include breast reduction and thigh/buttock lift.

How much does liposuction cost in Eugene?

The cost of liposuction in Eugene can vary depending on several factors, including the areas being treated, and the extent of the procedure. On average, the price may range from $3,000 to $10,000, but this can change based on the number of areas treated and whether other procedures are combined. During your consultation, Dr. Movassaghi will provide a personalized cost estimate based on your treatment plan, including surgeon’s fees, anesthesia, and facility costs. Movassaghi Plastic Surgery also offers financing options to help make paying for your procedure as convenient as possible.

How does liposuction work?

Dr. Movassaghi performs liposuction on an outpatient basis at McKenzie Surgery Center or Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene. General anesthesia is usually used for safety and comfort. Small suction tubes called cannulas are inserted through very short incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits to remove unwanted fat.

Recovery after liposuction

You will go home wearing a compression garment (or tape) covering the treated areas. Compression is advised for about a month as it helps reduce swelling after liposuction. Most patients experience little discomfort during recovery, saying that they feel more soreness than pain for the first few days, akin to how you feel after a hard workout. Initial discomfort is easily quelled with oral medication. Mild to moderate swelling and minor bruising are common and usually subside in 2 to 4 weeks. The final results take shape in about 2 to 3 months.

Liposuction vs non-surgical body contouring

With so many new and promising non-surgical treatments to spot-reduce fat available, you may wonder why anyone might still choose liposuction. We offer alternative non-surgical fat reduction options—such as CoolSculpting—and our patients have so far been thrilled with the results of these procedures. That said, neither can be considered a substitute for liposuction in every patient.

Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting

Both liposuction and CoolSculpting are excellent fat reduction options, but for different types of patients. Liposuction is typically the best option for patients who have larger amounts of fat they wish to remove, would like to address multiple areas of fat, or desire more extensive reshaping in an area.

Typically, CoolSculpting is better suited to patients who are generally happy with their shape, but who would like to noticeably reduce fatty bulges on the belly, hips, or thighs. CoolSculpting cannot be used on the face or neck. For the right patient, CoolSculpting can be a cost-effective way to lose fat without downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction

Dr. Movassaghi performs liposuction under IV sedation with local anesthesia or general anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure. After surgery, you may experience mild discomfort, soreness, and swelling, similar to muscle soreness after an intense workout. We prescribe pain medication to keep you comfortable and provide easy-to-follow post-operative care instructions for a speedy recovery. Most patients find that any discomfort, if they experience it at all, is short-lived and improves within a few days to a week after surgery.

Liposuction does not tighten loose skin. If you have good skin elasticity, your skin may naturally contract after fat removal, leading to a more toned appearance. However, if you have significant skin laxity, liposuction alone may not achieve the desired results. In such cases, Dr. Movassaghi may recommend combining liposuction with a skin tightening procedure (like a tummy tuck or body lift) so you are pleased with your results.

Liposuction is not a cellulite treatment, and while it can improve the overall shape and contour of the body, it doesn’t specifically target or reduce cellulite. For more noticeable cellulite reduction, we may recommend other treatments, such as Avéli Cellulite Reduction.

In general, Dr. Movassaghi can typically remove between 3 to 5 liters of fat in a single procedure. Removing too much fat at once can increase the risk of complications and cause a lax skin appearance. The goal is to remove the precise amount of fat to achieve natural-looking contours; liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Movassaghi will explain how he will use liposuction to define and enhance your shape based on your individual body type and goals.

Most patients can return to work and light daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks after liposuction, depending on the extent of the procedure and the physical demands of their job. People who work from home can usually return to work as soon as they feel ready, often just after a few days. If your job involves strenuous activity, you may need additional recovery time. Dr. Movassaghi will help you plan how long you should take off from work during your consultation and follow-up appointments.

You should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for about 4 to 6 weeks after liposuction to allow your body to heal properly. Light activities such as walking can be resumed within a few days to promote circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots. Gradually ease back into your workout routine, and be sure to follow Dr. Movassaghi’s post-operative guidelines to ensure you have a smooth recovery.

The fat cells removed during liposuction are permanently eliminated, meaning they won’t return. However, maintaining your results requires a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise. Significant weight gain after liposuction can cause remaining fat cells to expand and potentially alter your results.

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. It is designed for body contouring and targets areas of stubborn fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. Ideal candidates should be close to their target weight and looking to refine their body shape rather than achieve significant weight loss.
